Rest in peace Rene. We miss you and will always remember you.
On February 24, 2018, NAMI of Western Riverside honored a very worthy recipient for his efforts and leadership role in expanding the numbers of trainees in Psychiatry and for his role in implementing new graduate medical education programs. The expansion and growth in training programs will bring critically needed new clinical services in primary care, including behavioral health to the inland Southern Caifornia region.
Gerald A Maguire, MD, DFAPA, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry is the Chair of Neuroscience at the University of California at Riverside (UCR).
Seen in the picture above at center is Dr. Gerald Maguire MD, alongside his father, another Gerald Maguire MD and also a Psychiatrist. UCR Psychiatry residents flank them on both sides.
Dr. Maguire is also the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) of Graduate Medical Education and in this role is responsible for shepherding the growth of all GME for programs under the academic sponsorship of UCR. UCR has now added more than 160 new residents in a variety of programs including Psychiatry.
We hope to see someday soon additional efforts by the UCR Neuroscience group in leveraging the existing physician workforce and other paraprofessional providers to expand and strengthen the behavioral workforce.
